Vancouver Marijuana Related Retail Use (MMRU) Applications

  • 27 applicants have been issued a Development Permit
  • 8 applicants have been issued a Business License.

There are three steps in the permit and licensing process for medical marijuana-related retail businesses and compassion clubs. Each application must:

  1. Find a business location that meets all City zoning requirements
  2. Obtain a development permit
  3. Obtain a business licence

Development permits and business licences are non-transferrable and must be renewed each year.


As of January 25, 2017  18 applications are in the pipeline for the Director of Planning to approve or reject. An additional 15 applications have been rejected and are being appealed to the Board of Variance. No new applications are being accepted. Applicants have 6 months to re-apply if they fail to meet the guidelines on their initial application.
